Supermoon — a Call to Action

October 14, 2016 By AstroKate

call-to-actionOn Sunday we have a “super” full moon in Aries. The full moon in October is traditionally called Hunter’s Moon because it rises at sunset (as all full moons do), allowing additional light to extend the shorter autumn day for hunters and farmers.

A super moon occurs because the moon’s orbit around earth is slightly elliptical, not a true circle. When the full moon occurs at a point in the orbit closest to earth (the perigee), the moon appears considerably larger and brighter than usual. Tides will also be higher. (Closer moon = increased gravitational pull on the oceans.)

That is the astronomy of a super moon.

But is the super moon any stronger (astrologically) than a regular full moon?

This particular full moon is in Aries and conjoins Uranus. Wrap up volatile (Aries), breakthrough (Uranus) feelings (Moon) in a package, and yes, you can see there is potential for strong emotional outbursts!

What is the best way to handle this kind of intensity?

I look first to the influence of the Moon in a particular chart. Does the person have strong Cancer or fourth house (ruled by the Moon) in his/her chart? Where is the Moon in the natal chart? Where is it transiting now? Where is Aries in the chart? What other natal planets in Aries are being touched by the full moon?

For example: I have a strong Cancer placement in my own natal chart that leads me to want to take care of people through my work. This particular Moon (caring) in Aries (strong, fiery) brings out an impulse to fix things — which may not be helpful to the person on the other end, if they don’t feel they need fixing! So for me, the challenge (Aries) of this full moon is to make sure that emotional impulse (super Moon) is directed in a positive way. Since Aries in my chart is in the house that rules creativity, I can use that energy to write in a way that may produce a revelation (Uranus).

Full moons illuminate. Super full moons illuminate brightly. This one is calling you to action, a searchlight that you can train on a part of your life that needs intense scrutiny.

Do you know how this super Moon will affect you?

If you need a copy of your birth chart, I’ll create your chart from your birth data and email you a free PDF (no interpretations, just the chart).

I don’t send spam and this will not sign you up for any email lists. I promise.
